“Phool nahi chingari hu, mai bharat ki naari hu”- Ganga Bai, Dalit leader, village Gundrai
Being a Dalit, I had learnt to live in pity discriminated conditions since childhood. Being daily wage labor I had worked equally & probably more than men but still I was underpaid. I live in Gundrai, a small village at 3 kms distance of Sohagpur. I met Dalit Sangh team in 2002 and got opportunity to visit their office, for the first time I saw everyone (of different castes) sitting on the same floor mat- I was surprised. Since then I attended several trainings on gender, constitution and MGNREGA. I made a union of women across villages demanding equal wages and also went to Delhi in 2006 demanding implementation of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in our district, resulting its implementation in 2007. Therefore I keep motivating others by saying- Phool nahi chingari hu, mai bharat ki naari hu (I am not a flower, I am a spark, I am a strong woman of India)
